Many coffee lovers would agree that the Technivorm Moccamaster KBT 741 is the best automatic drip coffee maker available for home use. The KBT 741 brewer is not an ordinary coffee maker. Based in the Netherlands, This machine is hand made and is individually tested to assure that the heat, speed and quality of the product meet their high standards.
Techivorm has focused on manufacturing quality Coffee Makers since 50 years ago, the Moccamaster is a durable, long lasting, energy efficient machine that can matching commercial grade coffee makers.
The Moccamaster has the power to make some truly outstanding coffee drinks especially with fresh and quality beans. It can brew 10 cups of hot coffee at one time. It also has a lovely, elegant design and keeps coffee hot for a full 6 hours.
At first glance, I didn’t give much attention to Technivorm Moccamaster since it looks deceptively rudimentary; it is composed by a series of cones and rectangles. However, when I take a closer look to it, I found the uncover wealth of complexity.
Then I started to notice the Fibonacci-esque progression of component size, starting at the smallest foot and ending at the main column; the satisfying off-center position of the Technivorm brand logo; the five distinct graduations of the water reservoir, running opposed and still complementary; and subtle crescent of matte on the glossy black filter cone.
In the end, I realize that there are no useless elements in the Moccamaster’s design. Each part simply belongs, and any slight change could pull the entire design off balance.
This amazingly balanced, simplified design has remained unchanged since 1970s. This is a such brilliant design of engineering and this is very rare for any coffee brand design to stay unchanged for more than a few years—not to mention forty.
This is the genius of desing of Technivorm.
Certified by SCAA
In 1964, as the founder of Technivorm, Dutch engineer Gerard Clement-Smit developed the Moccamaster coffee makers and it met the exacting standards of SCAA. Moccamaster is the first of its kind to earn certification from the SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America) and conforms to the strict industry standards of it.
The Technivorm Moccamaster Thermal meets the very strict requirements of both the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) and the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE) for coffee brewing quality. This is something very rare coffee makers to claim.

Performance of Moccamaster KBT 741
To make a test, we measured the water temperatures both in the brew basket and carafe throughout several brewing cycles. We messure out a temperature range between 197° and 202°F in the brew basket and a temperature range between 196° and 199° in the carafe. Both temperature results fall within the range of 195°-205°F, which is set by the SCAA for gold cup certification. The warming plate kept the coffee at about 190°F for one hour.
Heating up the water and wetting the coffee grounds costs about 30 seconds, and at the front fifteen seconds of that, the carafe received the first drops of water. It took 6 or 7 minutes to brew a full pot of coffee depending on ground size. The better the grind, the longer it was extracting.
There are some outside factors for any machine that can strikingly affect the coffee taste and quality, which includes the beans, the grind and especially the coffee/water ratio. For a objective and precise test result, we use cups which is as close as possible to cupping standards of SCAA. We stayed 63g of medium roast coffee beans each pot, which ensures the standard ratio of 50g coffee per liter of water, and we ground the beans with a medium grind.
We were very impressed at the amazing results. The Moccamaster KBT 741 consistently brewed an exceedingly cup of coffee one pot after another, the very best we have ever tasted from a home drip coffee maker. With great depth of flavor, it is strong but never tastes bitter. Even those serious coffee drinkers gave it the highest scores. The coffee temperature was perfect, hot enough to withstand a considerable splash of milk without turning cold.
Plus, the machine features an auto shut off that activates after the brewing cycle is complete. Without annoying loud bubbling or gurgling noises, the whole brewing process is quiet and you can sneak in a fast one while someone is sleeping nearby.
